Whether you’re preparing for a corporate presentation or a charity event, you’ll need a projector and a big screen to get your message across. While searching for the perfect projector and screen for the job, you’ll notice that there are front and rear availabilities. Don’t know which one to choose? Don’t worry! We’re here to help.
Front projection is the method most people are familiar with. The screen is placed in the desired location with the projector casting the image in front of it. With this setup, you can use a variety of different screen sizes. The screen itself is completely opaque, typically with a dark gray backing. This reflects as much light as possible and allows for a clear projection. Front projection doesn’t typically require as bright of a projector because the light is being absorbed at the front of the screen. Front projection is the most space-saving option, as the projector can be hung from the ceiling and the screen placed against a wall. There’s no need to allow for space for the projector or to account for projection space.
Rear projection is the opposite of front projection. In this setup, the projector is placed behind the screen, and the image is cast from the rear. This requires you to get a bit creative. While you’ll have a bit of a “backstage” area available to store items and speakers, it can eat into your seating and space if you’re not careful. However, there’s no need to worry about people blocking the view or walking in front of the projector. The screen for rear projection is different than that of front projection. Instead of it being opaque, it’s translucent. For this reason, the projector has to be more powerful in order for the image to be clear. It’s also important to note that roll-up screens can’t be used for rear projection. The pole gets in the way and interferes with the image.
